We had to put our 12-year-old dog, Daisy, to sleep unexpectedly two weeks ago. She was having a difficult time breathing and she collapsed on the front porch when we opened the door to let her out. We took her to the after-hours animal emergency clinic where she was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer. It usually takes a dog's life within 6-8 weeks.
We had Daisy cremated and took her ashes to my mom's property for burial. My mom and step-dad live on 10 acres, and there is an area that has become a pet cemetary over the years. All of the family pets over the past 30 years have been laid to rest there with a medium-sized rock on top to mark the locations of each.
Daisy's mother Scout, who is only one year older, is still with us.

Very sorry to hear the news. I know those dogs are family.
This is very sad . . . bye Daisy. At least for a while . . . it is amazing that family pets have strong personalities and a presence and spirit all their own.
