Zzzzzz.....

It's almost 1:30 pm and Tom has slept ever since I arrived this morning. He wakes up to take pills the nurse brings him but goes right back to sleep. He doesn't eat anymore. His mouth is too sensitive to eat or drink anything except small amounts of crushed ice. The nurses say not to worry about his lack of food b/c they are keeping him hydrated; if necessary they will give him nutrients in liquid form through the catheter in his chest.

Prior to today he's been waking up periodically to watch a little bit of tv or check his email, etc. When he is awake he's still positive about his recovery. I'm very proud of him - he's a courageous man and he's keeping me strong.

His doctor was going to give him a second dose of chemotherapy today but decided to hold off after seeing his present condition. Today's agenda on the wall reads: "control pain".

Thanks for posting your comments. I enjoy reading them.

Lisa, Please tell Tom that I'm sorry I haven't been by to see him. I am at my parent's house in the mountains helping out with my Mom. I'm planning on coming back tomorrow (Friday) but it all depends on what happens the rest of the day. My friends tell me that every time I leave town there are terrile storms. Therfore, I wouldn't be surprised if it is raining cats and dogs down there! The last time I went to the beach is when the tornado came through Atlanta. My travels are few and far between, but they seem to be good for eveyone's vegetable gardens. My parents have 3 big dogs, 3 cats and 2 birds (plus an outside dog that lives here, but belongs to a neighbor). It is a zoo. My poor Dad --- all he does is feed animals. Forunately they have lots of space and lots of land. Otherwise it would be a nightmare!!!! Give Tom and Katie big hugs and then have them give you one from me. You are all in my thoughts. Hang in there. Love, Jay

Hi Lisa, Tom, & Katie,
I'm really enjoying this blog connection. Tom, I'm glad they are making pain management the number one priority at the moment and that you are able to sleep through most of it. My heart goes out to all of you. I truly wish I could be there to just "be there". I continue to marvel at the strength you and Lisa have shown. I'm proud of you both! I'm holding a six pack of this pricey Mississippi Magnolia Beer for you guys to celebrate when you can. I'll deliver it myself! Let me know if you need anything. Contrary to popular belief, we do have modern amenities here in south Mississippi, and Federal Express is operational in the area. Ha! Ha! Have a wonderful day!
Love you guys,
Elise
