CONGRATULATIONS!

Tom has reached a major milestone this week: he was officially released from the BMT clinic. He no longer has to go to the clinic for regular appointments. Over the past year he has gone from having appointments every single day, to every other day, to twice weekly, to once weekly, to once every other week. From now on he will only have to go in for marrow biopsies every six months over the next two years. Yeah Tom!

Since I have this week off for spring break, I decided to go to the clinic with Tom - to say hello to all the staff and get out of the house. Well, we had no idea that this was going to be such a monumental day - I'm so glad I was with him when he received the good news and a certificate of completion which reads:

I think I may be more proud of this piece of paper than Tom is. I held it facing outward on the elevator for everyone to notice. I told the cashier at Trader Joe's that we were buying this bottle of wine to celebrate Tom's.... blah, blah, blah. I found a way to sneak the news into a conversation I had with a fellow shopper in the store. What an obstacle we've overcome. I feel like breathing has become a little easier.

Hopefully that news closes the door on what felt like a bad dream, and bolts it shut. I feel like we're at the end of a scary movie - the monster has done his damage, mangled and tortured people, prepared them for a lifetime of paranoia - and finally he has been slaughtered and burned without a trace of existance. Roll the credits.

Awesome news! Way to show that monster who's boss! (Don't underestimate the monster, though -- you know what happens in the horror movies when everybody is sure it's all over.)
Celebrate, stay vigilant, and keep up the good work.

WOW!!! This is wonderful news. Life takes us all through some roller coaster rides, but you have been through living hell and come back to tell about it.

It's spring and that's a good time to celebrate a resurgence of life. You deserve great things from here on out! Seize the day.

Yes, Steve, you are correct. I hope there is no sequel.
