Quick hello

It's been a busy day. Tom's doing about the same. His mental state is almost back to normal, however his body weight is now only 122 lbs. (and with a limited appetite). So, today put yourself in my shoes and try and decide how you would relay this info in a positive way.

Thanks.

I'll go first.

I've seen what that hospital has given Tom, just like you Lisa, and he needs some good ol' Southern cooking! I know it's not the healthiest, but our boy Tom could use some biscuits, gravy, rice, green beans and fried chicken.

This was a staple at our house, growing up, and we know it's not the greatest, but the biscuits alone will add on some pounds.

Oh, get some AlaGa suryp for the biscuits and you are in buisness!

Pardon my spelling, one would think with all this stuff this blog would have a spellcheck button.

Love,
Chris

Until Tom gets that feeding tube removed I'm afraid he is going to continue to lose weight. They need to get him back on a solid food diet. His apetite will return once he can eat solid food because you can give him a lot of things he likes that are bad for him. :-)
Also, the more real exercise he gets the more energy he will burn and the more his apetite will return to normal. A good addition might be SlimFast or other liquid dietary supplement that he has in addition to some regular food.

I had this same problem for a while and had to use something similar to SlimFast between each meal to get my weight back up. Unfortunately I didn't know when to stop after that.

Are the doctors saying anything about this? We don't want Tom to starve . . . is he getting out of the ICU soon? That might help . . .

I'm thinking peanut butter and jelly (on white bread), buttery biscuits, grits with cheese, eggs & bacon thrown in, Steak & Shake! And if only the real Strickland's was still in business and someone had a leer jet! They used to have the best cheeseburgers and fird hot dogs.

Chris is right. We ate some serious southerm home cooking growing up. Whatever is not good for a slim wasitline is what we ate and loved every minute of it.

If only all this had happened before Mama's stroke. She would have had Daddy running to the hospital at least once a day with a bounty of piping hot food!

Okay, Lisa,
Call me dah-lin. I feel sure I can talk you through frying a few pieces of chicken like Honey used to do. As soon as Tom's appetite does return to normal, you let me know. I'll come back to Atlanta and cook for a few days just like Mama used to so Tom can pack on the pounds. Fried chicken, roast beef, ham & gravy, mac & cheese, biscuits, etc. I'll sure put on a spread for you guys. Yum! Yum!

You just be sure those doctors take good care of Tom. I'm proud of you guys. And, I proud of you Lisa for taking such great of Tom. Now, let's fatten him up.

What is that restaurant called? Is it Mary Macs or something like that? I remember they had great home cooking. I think that's about as close to Mama's cooking as you'll get right now.

Love ya,
Elise

Lisa,
I realized I picked up on what everyone else was talking about regarding food. You mentioned how you would relay "this" in a positive manner. Things are positive because Tom is alive and has his wits about him and he still has that twinkle in his eye. He still smiles and laughs. That's what I saw when I spent time with him this weekend. That's positive, isn't it?
Love ya,
Elise
